The rotation of the bolt is prevented by a pin that is inserted into the shank directly under the head. The projecting part of the pin will fit into a corresponding groove that is present in the adjacent piece. You will commonly use this bolt for the bigger ends of eccentrics, connectors, and similar items. Round-Headed or Cup-Headed Bolts These bolts are used when projecting is undesirable and if an improved appearance is needed. Usually, the bolts are sold by fasteners suppliers with a sung that is forged on the shank right under the head, which helps prevent rotation. You commonly use this bolt for the construction of tanks, and it may be used with specific parts of trains. T-Headed Bolt This variety of bolt is used for securing vices, clamps, and other accessories to tables of different machine tools. The tables will be provided with various T-slots, which accommodate the T-heads. Usually, the neck of the bolt is square, which prevents any rotation of the bolt as it is fastened in place. Countersunk-Headed Bolt This type of bolt is used where the bolt’s head should not project over the surface of the piece it is used to connect. It may be sold with a snack or a neck, which helps prevent any bolt rotation. Stove Bolt A stove bolt features a round, flat head that is beveled on the underside to ensure that it fits well in a countersunk hole. This bolt also has a slot on the head. The slot is designed to screw the bolt into a nut using a screwdriver. This is designed for any assemblies where precision is not overly important and when it is desirable to have the head of this bolt flush with the surface of the workspace. Carriage Bolt This type of bolt is used for fastening wood parts together or to fasten metal parts to wood. It features a squared portion right beneath the head, which prevents any rotation when the nut is slackened or tightened. Hook Bolt A hook bolt is designed for semi-permanent fastening when used in concrete. This can also be used in situations where there is not any room for a bolt hole through one of the pieces that is being fastened or connected, or in situations where a bolt hole would weaken one of the pieces. As a result, this type of bolt can be used to attach a shaft hanger to a flange of various girders and joists. Explosion Bolts and Nuts This variety of bolt is used to attach parts to concrete, stone, or brick walls along with floors. It includes an internally threaded split sleeve. This is the part that will be slipped into a hole that is made in a wall and then expanded by running the screw through it. Rag or Foundation Bolt A rag bolt, which is commonly called a foundation bolt, can be used to fix into a stone concrete foundation. The head is going to be wider at the base than it is at the top, and it is led into a hole that is tapered. The tapered head will be cut in an uneven manner, which means it is jagged, and then molted sulfur or lead is poured into the hole to fill up the space between the lead and the concrete or stone – whichever is being used. If greater strength is required, there are four parallel keys or bars that are used along with this bolt. Eyebolt An eyebolt is a common fastener used for lifting purposes. It will be screwed or turned inside of a treated hole that is found at the top of a specific machine. These types of bolts are commonly used with electric motors along with medium or lightweight machinery and there are usually more than one of these in place.
