Painted Aluminum Sheet Metal

People use painted aluminum sheet metal in projects where they need strength and durability, but they also need lightness. Although steel is stronger, steel is also a lot heavier. Aluminum sheets are a good compromise when lighter weights are needed, as they have that strength and that lighter weight needed for certain projects. These sheets also get stronger the colder it is outside, which makes them ideal for fabrication projects in areas with freezing temps.

Aluminum Sheets and the Most Common Thicknesses
Manufacturers make aluminum sheets by passing the aluminum slabs between heavy rolls, which craft the aluminum down and spread it out to the desired thickness. The most common thickness for aluminum sheets is .040 of an inch. Thinner and thicker sheets are available, but again this is the most common thickness and the easiest to find. Other common thicknesses include .032”, .063”, and .080”. If other thicknesses are needed they can be special ordered from metal fabricators and painted aluminum sheet metal suppliers.

Uses for Painted Aluminum Sheets
People use painted aluminum sheet metal for both indoor and outdoor projects. They’re lightweight, flexible, and the finishing protects them from the outdoor elements. Some of the projects companies and individuals use these sheets for include:
  • Mobile home and residential siding
  • Racecar and other automobile manufacturing
  • Airplane manufacturing
  • Roofing projects
  • Trailer manufacturing
  • Shed construction
  • Metal signs
  • Military armor

Painted Aluminum Comes in Basically Any Color Desired
Due to the fact that these sheets are used for an assortment of projects, they are available in a wide array of colors. Those that want to be able to see the natural color of the aluminum can purchase a version that has a clear coat. There is a full line of metallic colors as well, in an assortment of finishes from flat to glossy to sparkly flake.
Those who want basic colors like white, black, or red are also in luck, as manufacturers now make these available in almost any color imaginable. Manufacturers also made these in a series of colors that they refer to as “racing colors.” Just as the width can be customized, manufacturing companies can make these in custom colors for special orders.

Painted Aluminum Sheets are an All-Around Win
In conclusion, painted aluminum sheets are an all-around win. Metal suppliers have listened to their customer’s feedback as this product has grown in popularity. They now make these sheets in an assortment of thicknesses and colors. These sheets are popular in everything from roofing projects to trailer manufacturing because they are both lightweight and durable. As an added bonus, aluminum is highly recyclable, and is even called infinitely recyclable, as it is a one hundred percent recyclable product. Those wanting to go green can buy recycled versions of these products, as there is no loss of quality in the recycling process. Users can recycle their projects scraps when they are done, and if they ever decide to scrap what they built they can easily recycle those used materials as well.
