Steel Diamond Plate

Steel_diamond_plate
Also known as “floor plate” and “tread plate”, steel diamond plate is a sheet metal product that’s used in a range of commercial and industrial applications. As the name implies, floor plates are often used as a decorative or slip-resistant coating. A diamond plate’s pattern may be lozenge- or diamond-, block-, or bar-shaped, and it’s usually arranged in checkerboard fashion. Though different terms are used in various areas, they all refer to metal plates or sheets with a slightly raised pattern on one side and a smooth finish on the other.

Steel Diamond Plate Types and Availability
Steel Diamond or tread plates typically conform to ASTM A786 standards, and they are available in alloy steel, high-strength/low-alloy, low-alloy, and carbon hot-rolled sheets. Floor plate is sold in numerous load capacities and thicknesses, and it can be cold worked or welded.

The Advantages of Steel Diamond Plate
Steel tread or diamond plate is very durable, especially when its light weight is considered. It’s also highly resistant to corrosion. Its patterned side does all the hard work, providing much-needed decoration, slip resistance, and protection. Here are a few of the biggest benefits of steel tread plate.
  • Slip resistance. The raised pattern of steel floor plate provides crucial traction on ramps, steps, floors, ladders, tailgates, catwalks, loading docks, running boards, and many other surfaces, even when they’re covered in mud, chemicals, snow, or ice. A special type of floor plate, known as FTQ or embossed firetruck quality, meets the NFPA’s requirements for slip resistance.
  • Resistance to corrosion. Tread plates made of stainless steel provide many years of useful service under tough conditions, including marine settings.
  • Better hygiene. Steel floor plate is easy to clean, and it is highly resistant to damage from corrosive and strong cleansers. This makes it a great choice for areas that must be cleaned frequently, such as kitchens, public restrooms, restaurants, livestock transporters, ambulances, and many more.
  • Increased protection. Steel tread plate minimizes damage to skids, dollies, doors, walls, and corners. It also provides superior protection for tailgates, truck beds, bumpers, and vehicle bodies.
  • An attractive appearance. Steel plate is available in numerous finishes, materials, and patterns for use in furniture making, architecture, and more. Automotive shop walls and firetrucks are a couple of places where steel floor plate is commonly seen.

One of the best things about steel tread plate is its versatility. These sheets can be applied almost anywhere there’s a slip and fall hazard, but they’re often used in high-traffic workplaces such as warehouses. Maintenance requirements are low, and upkeep is typically required only when plates meet corrosive chemicals or saltwater. Even in harsh conditions, general maintenance and yearly inspections are all that’s required.

The Uses of Diamond Plate
The benefits of steel diamond plate make it great for numerous applications. Tread plates are often found in stairways, garages, parking lots, elevators, warehouses, hospitals, factories, ships, docks, walk-in freezers, access ramps, trailers, truck toolboxes, and hundreds of other commercial and industrial settings.
